Hallmark Industries is a well-known American company with almost three decades in business. With many product lines, from water pumps to gear reducers, the company quickly became the industry leader. Among their products, Hallmark has a number of different well pumps. Here, we have compiled our comprehensive review of Hallmark Industries well pumps for home water wells.
Features & Benefits
Hallmark Industries is one of the leading manufacturers in its industry and for good reasons. For starters, all of their pumps are built of high-quality materials. The materials are strong and sturdy, and yet, not too heavy.
Additionally, all their models have been factory tested. It means that they literally test every single part of a product before assembling it. The pumps they make are simple, which allows for great efficiency and low maintenance. There are no complicated parts, or anything similar, which might get damaged in the long run.
On top of that, their pumps come at decent prices. Many pumps, in the same quality range, usually cost a lot more. Hallmark Industries sells its products at a reasonable price.
Performance and Sizing Chart
You might have noticed that the pumps we reviewed have lots of numbers and letters in their names. Those characters represent the series, which are sorted by various factors.
Usually, the bigger number means the more powerful pump. For example, take a look at MA343X and MA0460X series. While the first model offers the max pumping level of 50ft, the second model offers 147ft. Then observe how the MA0460X series has the GPM flow of 25.5, the other model has only 20.
Also, MA343X has ½ HP and works on 6.5 amps. On the other hand, MA0460X has 1HP and works on 12 amps, which is a significant difference. However, horsepower is not the most important factor when it comes to well pumps. Never choose a pump based on its horsepower!

Features and Buying Tips
These models are the best among all Hallmark Industries pumps. However, if you want to shop on your own, there are a few factors that you should consider. In this section, we will clarify all the things that you need to know before buying one.
Pump Dimensions – Another Essential Thing to Consider
When it comes to overall physical dimensions, it depends on the pump series. Let’s compare the same two models that we compared above. A model with a lower number, such as MA0343X-4A is around 13.74 x 15.59 x 25.83 inches. On the other hand, MA0459X-14A is a bit larger. It measures 21.26 x 17.05 x 36.89.
Now, it also depends on the type of well you have. There are some minimum dimensions when it comes to the well diameter, too. For example, if you have a 2.5-inch well, you should install a classic jet pump, as long as the depth is less than 25 feet. If your water well is 4-inch or bigger, you should use a convertible jet pump or a submersible pump.
Choosing a Model
All the models on this list are excellent. However, choosing the right one depends mainly on your needs.
If you want a pump that does not consume much electricity but is powerful like stronger models, you should choose the first unit on the list. MA0414X-7A has 1HP, but practically, it works like much stronger pumps.
On the other hand, if you are looking for a lower price tag, MA0343X-4 is your best choice. It’s not expensive, but due to high-quality materials, it promises a long lifespan.
If you have a big well and need a mesmerizing flow rate, be sure to check out MA0419X-12A. It provides an awesome flow rate of 35 gallons per minute. It’s the best choice in terms of quality and does not consume too much energy.
In the end, if you are looking for amazing efficiency, we advise you to check out MA0431X-18A. It has a 35 GPM flow rate, like MA0419X-12A, but it achieves that rate with only a little effort.
Installation and Starting
Installing and starting the pump is not a difficult thing to do. However, it might be slightly confusing if you have never done it before. That’s why we have prepared this short guide to help you out.
Safety First
Before you even start, there are a few security measures that you should take. First, make sure that the pumps’ voltage matches your electricity supply. Otherwise, you will lose the warranty. Also, most pumps are made for clean water, and pumping the sand will clog the pump. Running the pump without water is also never advised.
Of course, you should always wear gloves and eye-protection while assembling and make sure to protect the pump from freezing temperatures.
Drilled Well Installation
At first, you should always check your pump and accessories for physical damage. The electric supply should have the proper voltage, grounding, and transformer size. Then, make sure that the well casing is perfectly smooth. If not, it could scrape the cable, which will cause a short circuit.
There are a few things that you should consider when choosing the pipe. At first, the pipe must be able to withstand the pumps’ maximum pressure. A 1-inch pipe can be used for 5, 7, and 10 GPM units. For higher flow rates, use the 1-¼-inch pipe.
Installing with a Polyethylene Pipe
At first, you need to install an adapter into the pump discharge opening. Make sure to hold the discharge head with a wrench to prevent the housing from loosening. Then, install two 1-inch hose clamps over one end of the pipe and tighten them.
When done, heat the polyethylene pipe to soften it, and press it over the adapter. Tighten the clamps around the pipe over the adapter end, and lower the pump and pipe into the well. Secure the cable.
Installing with a Semi-Rigid Plastic Pipe
Then, you need to thread the first section of the pipe into the discharge opening. The same as with polyethylene pipe, you need to secure the wire cable 5 feet from the top of the pump using the electrical tape.
When putting the pump in place, pass the pipe and cable through the well seal. Of course, make sure that the well seal is properly vented. Cut the last section to the required length, and install a 1 or 1-¼-inch male connector over the end of the pipe. You can do it using a solvent, to properly weld the pieces together.
Wrap the 90-degree threads over the plastic elbow with Teflon tape, and thread the elbow into the male connector. Depending on the pump model, you might need additional clamps and fittings to make the necessary connections at the elbow, and maybe control center.
Installing the Control Center
At first, make sure to use the Teflon tape on all thread joints. Wrap the outside thread of the tank control center and thread it into the tank opening. Install the pressure gauge with a ¾ x ¼-inch busing at the opening of the control center.
Connect the pipe from well and pump to the control center using the male plastic adapter and a clamp, in case of polyethylene pipe. If you use ABS or steel pipes, thread them directly into the control center.
Electrical Connections
Working with electricity is not advised if you are not a professional. However, if you still intend to do it, be sure to take all the necessary safety measures and properly follow the instructions.
Before you attempt to do any wiring, turn off the main power supply to the pump. Turn the pressure switch to the OFF position, which will disconnect the switch. Then, you need to remove the cover from the pressure switch by simply loosening the cover nut.
You need to connect the wires from the power supply to the pressure switch, using no less than 14-gauge wire. Cut the wire cable to the proper length and connect the wires to the pressure switch. In the end, you need to replace the cover on the pressure switch and reset the lever.
Starting the Pump
If you’ve done everything properly, it’s time to start your well pump. Turn the circuit breaker to ON position and the pump should start to build pressure. In some cases, it might be necessary to hold the lever in the start position and wait until the right pressure is achieved.
Pump Maintenance
A nice thing about Hallmark Industries pumps is that they don’t require any special maintenance. If you install the well pump properly, you don’t have to worry about anything. However, you should still check the wiring and piping once a year.
Also, if your pump stops working, you can check the troubleshooting section in your user manual. You also have the option to call their support team. In the end, if nothing helps, return the pump.
FAQs
Can I Run a Well Pump Without a Pressure Switch?
If the water level drops, or especially if there is no water in the well, your pump will burn out.
Why My Pump Frequently Turns Off and On?
In most cases, if that happens, it means that your pressure tank has gone bad. You should fix or replace it right away.
How to Determine the Pump Type?
If there is a single pipe between a water source and a pump, you have a shallow well pump. On the other hand, if there are two pipes, your pump is for deep wells.
