Why Do We Need Water Filters?

Why Do We Need Water Filters

Even though your drinking water may look and smell normal that doesn’t mean it is not contaminated. What’s more, some Water filters can remove the impurities using biological, physical, and chemical techniques.

The Pur Maxion water filter can provide about 40 gallons of clean, filtered water for 2 months. Still, to keep your system efficient, you must take good care of it. Replacing the filter on time has a huge impact on the efficiency of your water filter. Luckily, this water pitcher has a light indicator that lets you know then it is time to swap the filter. This feature saves you a lot of time and energy you would spend on finding the replacement schedule. It has three different light colors.

Greenlight Indicator

The green light indicator on your water filter means that water is clean and safe to use. The PUR Maxion filter is made out of activated carbon. It successfully absorbs contaminants and organic compounds. It can successfully remove dangerous chemicals as well as lead and chlorine. Furthermore, it can also remove compounds like chloramines that give your water a bad taste.

Yellow Light Indicator

Once the yellow light indicator turns on, the filter starts losing its effectiveness. This doesn’t necessarily mean you have to change the filter right away. However, keep it in mind that at some point in the close future you will have to replace the filter.

Red Light Indicator

Red light is a sign that you must change the expired carbon filter right now. That filter has probably filtered over 100 gallons and it can’t stop harmful contaminants anymore. Therefore, if you see this light indicator, swap the filter immediately.

How to Reset the PUR Water Filter?

Once you replace PUR water filters you must reset the indicator light. Luckily, PUR has designed this filter to let you do that easily. To reset the indicator light, hold the reset button for about 5 seconds. But still, you may experience some issues while trying to reset the button. If the light refuses to reset, don’t worry too much.

That means there is probably some debris clogging the filter screen. If this happens you must rinse the entire housing in water. After that, let it dry and reassemble the whole system. Another very common cause of this problem could be light. The light can get stuck sometimes, but luckily you can fix this using available tools or a knife.

How Does Water Filter Replacement Indicator Work?

The water filter replacement light indicator is just a timer. It can be reset by simply holding the button for a few seconds which is exactly how timers are reset. Every cartridge has its life duration. Once a cartridge has worked for a certain amount of time, the alarm on the timer triggers. After that, the light indicator will change the color and let you know if it needs changing.

What to Do When the Filter Lights Stop Working?

This is a quite common question about PUR Maxion water filters. The indicator lights not working can give you a hard time. Even though it might seem very difficult to fix, it is not. This problem can be easily fixed in no time! This is most probably caused by the loaded clip inside the pitcher getting stuck. All you have to do to fix this is start tapping the unit gently and see if it pops out. If that doesn’t give any results, try to figure out a different method to pop the clip back out. Remember, the clip can be a little difficult to spot. So, you might need to use a flashlight to figure out where the clip is.

How Long Do PUR Filters Last?

Pur pitcher filter

PUR Faucet Filters last about three months. These filters should be replaced every 100 gallons. PUR Pitcher Filters on the other hand can provide about forty gallons of water. Roughly speaking, the PUR pitcher filters should be changed every two months. PUR Refrigerator Filters are very effective and can filter about 100 to 200 gallons of water. Now, that pretty much depends on your refrigerator model. They should be replaced twice a year.

How to Clean the Faucet Mount on Your Water Filter?

PUR faucet mount water filters are not only space-savers and cost-effective, but they are also quite low-maintenance. However, your faucet can get grimy and rust if not cleaned. That is why you must keep your faucet clean. Therefore, we broke the cleaning process down into four simple steps.

Best Faucet Water Filters PUR 3-stage Faucet Filtration System

Remove the Filter

Since your filter is installed on the top of your faucet the first thing you need to do is to remove it. This will take less than a couple of minutes. After twisting off the cover, just carefully remove the filter.

Cleaning the Canister

Right after you clean the filter, you should also clean the canister. You should look for a solution that is water and food safe as it will go inside the filter too. Try using mild dish soap or a mixture of water and vinegar with a ratio of 3:1.

Debris Removal

Run the system under cold water for about 10 minutes. Sometimes hard particles, dirt, and grime can get stuck on the surface. Therefore, make sure there is no dirt or debris left inside.

Reassemble

And finally the last step! Install the filtration system back to the faucet. Let the water flow from the faucet for a couple of minutes.

Hot Water Through PUR Water Filters?

You may have been wondering if you could use this filtration system with hot water. And the answer is no! This water filter was meant to be used with cold water only. Using hot water through a PUR filter can significantly damage the system. After some time, the system will start losing its effectiveness. So, do not attempt to use this water filter with hot water!

Our Bottom Line
